Privacy Policy

The Local Government Association of Queensland (Limited) (LGAQ) is committed to protecting user privacy. LGAQ understands and appreciates that visitors and users of this web site are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that may be provided to LGAQ.
Collection and Use of Your Personal Information
LGAQ records the personal information that you provide to us voluntarily, for example when you:
1. register as a user of LGOnline;
2. fill in a conference or seminar registration form;
3. subscribe to an LGAQ publication; or
4. apply for a job.
LGAQ will tell you why it is collecting personal information and how LGAQ plans to use it or these things will be obvious when the information is collected. Generally we will not disclose your personal information other than to parties who have contracted with LGAQ to provide administrative services or activities on LGAQ's behalf.  Usually we require these parties to protect the privacy of your personal information in the same way as we do.
We also usually prepare and distribute to each attendee at each LGAQ conference/seminar a list of the names of the persons who have registered to attend the conference/seminar and the Council or other organisation they represent (if applicable).
LGAQ only collects personal information where the collection of the personal information is lawful and necessary or related to the functions of LGAQ. Where LGAQ collects information it will not do so in a manner which is unfair or unreasonably intrusive. The personal information collected by LGAQ will not be used or disclosed for any purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected without the consent of a person who provided that information.
LGAQ records your e-mail address during registration for LGOnline or if you send it to us in a message to us. It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to any external mailing lists. We will not use your e-mail address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it, without your consent.
Collection of Information on Web Site Activity
For statistical purposes, we collect information on web site activity (such as the number of users who visit the  web site, the date and time of the visits, the number of pages viewed and navigation patterns) through the use of "cookies".  This information on its own does not identify an individual, but it does provide us with statistics that we can use to analyse and improve our web site.  Cookies allow computers to identify and interact more effectively.  Cookies are generated when users log onto LGOnline, to facilitate authorisation into some services. However, the LGAQ does not use the cookies to collect data about LGOnline users..  Most internet browsers are set up to accept cookies.  If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may be able to change the settings of your browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to your computer, giving you the choice whether to accept it or not. Cookies will be collected when accessing NRM's Stock Route Water Agreement application that are used to identify and authorise the user.
LGAQ uses a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to its offices, fire walls and secure databases to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.  The internet is not a secure environment.  If you use the internet to send LGAQ any information, including your email address, it is sent at your own risk. 
Personal Information – Access and Accuracy
You have the right to access most personal information LGAQ holds about you. If you want to access your information or alternatively if you have a complaint concerning your information privacy please direct your query in writing to - The Privacy Officer, LGAQ, PO Box 2230, Fortitude Valley BC Qld 4006. You are allowed to inspect all personal information held by us about you, take notes about or obtain copies of the information. LGAQ may deny your request for access to personal information in some circumstances but if we do this then we will tell you why. LGAQ may charge a fee for supplying the personal information.
It is important that the personal information we collect from you is accurate, complete and up to date. You can contact us at any time to update your personal information or to tell us that the information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete.
A Commonwealth identifier is a Commonwealth Government or Commonwealth Government Agency designated identification number such as your tax file number or medicare number. LGAQ does not use Commonwealth identifiers either as a means of identifying the personal information that we may have collected about you or otherwise.
Wherever it is lawful and practicable to do so, LGAQ will offer you the opportunity to deal with us anonymously.
Sensitive Information
If personal information concerns particular topics it is regarded as "sensitive information", for example, information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or health. LGAQ only collects, uses or discloses sensitive information about you as is allowed by law, for example, where we have received your consent to do so.

Restricted Subscription - Authorised Users Only
LGOnline is a subscription service managed by the LGAQ on behalf of Queensland subscribing Councils.  Council subscriptions provide for an unlimited number of accounts for accessing the LGOnline member portal at
Access to LGOnline is expressly limited to the following:
>  Elected Officials (Mayors and Councillors) of Queensland Councils who belong to a subscribing council
>  Employee's or duly engaged consultants of Queensland Councils who belong to a subscribing council
>  Employee's or Board Members of fully owned council organisations (Water Boards, Tourism Offices, Sales Yards, etc)
>  State Government Employee's under the reciprocal GovNet arrangement
>  Individuals authorised by the LGAQ President or Executive Director  
There are no commercial, industry, academic, professional or private subscriptions options provided under the LGOnline subscription model.  Individual councils are responsible for the granting and removing access for elected officials, staff and authorised others.
